I was raised in a family that didn’t drink coffee. My parents never had coffee in the morning. Even though we were from Washington State, the land of coffee, it wasn’t part of our lives. When I started going to high school, a little coffee drive-thru was on the way to school. I began my coffee journey by ordering a Chai Tea on those really cold mornings you need something to warm you up. (Chai is a great starter for those non-coffee drinkers.) I moved from Chai, to lattes, and now I drink about 4 cups of black coffee everyday. Before I started my coffee lifestyle, which was always the lifestyle I was meant to live, I never realized how much of an art there is to coffee. I am not an artistic person. My drawings of stick people are even terrible! But coffee, I can do. Coffee is full of art, from creating fabulous latte “art” to discovering new drink recipes. It’s the type of art I thrive in.
Beauty in art is different for everyone. Some look at a piece of art and think it’s absolutely awful. But others will look at the same piece, and think it is the most beautiful thing they have ever seen. So the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder, as I’m sure you already know. Similar to coffee, I guess. Some people love coffee, and can’t get enough; others believe it tastes like dirt. The Morning Jump is here to bring Fayetteville a specialty coffee everyone will love. Our artful and skillful ways of creating beauty in coffee will leave you yearning for more.
The art of the bean is not something The Morning Jump specializes in on our own. We purchase our beans from a local roaster in Raleigh, “Fortuna Enterprises” who has worked hard with us to create the perfect Morning Jump taste. It’s a special roast, different than you will find anywhere in the country; because it was made especially for us.
Latte Art may look like a simple flick of your baristas wrist, and Whalah! There is a beautiful leaf, or heart, or some other amazing chef-d’oeuvre in your cup! For those of you who have not experienced the surprise, or excitement of having a picturesque painting of steamed milk in your cup of coffee the you have been served, you will be in for a treat when you come to visit The Morning Jump on your daily routine. We hope to spoil you, and make it “old hat” that you have a masterpiece to brighten your day and drink from every morning. Not only does latte art look delectable in your “Cup of Joe”, but it is a sign the milk in your latte was steamed to perfection. Latte art can only be created if the milk in your latte has tiny micro bubbles. If it has too many bubbles, you’re drinking a cappuccino; if it has too little bubbles, your drinking warm milk with a shot of espresso. Learning how to steam milk perfectly is an art all on its own! All our baristas at The Morning Jump have been trained to steam milk correctly, and are always encouraged to better their own art. It’s not something that can be taught, it’s a skill our employees have learned, or are learning to develop.
Experimenting with creating drinks has been the most fun undertaking. You can try creating absolutely anything your heart desires! As you know now, I am not an artistic person. So I have tried re-creating a drink I have tasted here in South Korea. There is a shop at the entrance on post at Camp Humphreys where a little Korean lady works, and makes the best coffee I have had. I aspire to make drinks as well as she does. She has the science, the art, the love, all of it is put into her coffee. It is obvious, coffee is her life; and she has been living it for a long time. The Blueberry Latte is my favorite, and I have only begun my attempt at reconstructing the deliciousness of this beverage. At the Morning Jump we have hired an artist, girls who know coffee, and girls who have potential to create amazing drinks. With this combination of baristas, we will not only have your stereotypical specialty coffee, but creations you have never seen before.
Art, is a forte only few have in life. Some people are blessed with being able to create one of a kind masterpiece. Every time you come to The Morning Jump, you will be experiencing a masterpiece one of our barista’s has made especially for you.
